He shot the girl in the head, killing her. She lay dead for 2 1/2 days, her corpse bloating and blackening in the summer heat wave, until someone looking for a shortcut stumbled on what was left of her. Imagine the sight.

Thanks to the people who attempted to answer my question about the scapegoating of Jesus Christ, but I still don’t get it.
Jesus did indeed make the ultimate sacrifice for us, but to say that His suffering somehow “saved” us still makes no sense to me.
I didn’t say HE was imitating anything, just that His ritual murder, a terrible sacrifice though it was for Him, did nothing to change the fact that we still have the free will to do wrong if we’re so inclined. His suffering didn’t cancel that out and give us a licence to do whatever we want. To harm the innocent is no less wrong now than it was thousands of years ago.
Why would there be a need to appease the Creator by spilling the blood of the innocent? That goes all the way back into ancient superstition, when primitive man thought he had to appease the thunder god, the earthquake god, the harvest god and all the rest of his imagined deities.
The Creator left enough evidence in the Natural world to show that He (or possibly They) could not possibly be the bloodthirsty savage (thunder god again) portrayed in the OT.
In the case of Jesus Christ, it was a genuine sacrifice because He was offering something (his life and suffering) that belonged to Him. To kill another, of any species, as an offering to God or the gods (or the devil) is not a sacrifice, but a pointless murder and an insult against God.
To make a sacrifice is to give up something we actually own, and we can never own the life of another, even down to an ant.
All life and all creatures belong to God, so what makes people think they’ve got a right to destroy one of those creatures and throw it back in God’s face?

We CAN’T transfer our transgressions to another, as in scapegoating. WE are responsible for our actions, and to “punish” another, whether human or not, for things WE have done is to commit another crime, or “sin” if you prefer.

Metro police said a citizen’s tip led to the arrest of two men on Friday afternoon for their involvement in a break-in at a south Nashville home.
Police reported a neighbor notified them after seeing two men kick in the door and make entry into a home located on Wessex Drive around 12:15 p.m.
Authorities responded to the scene and arrested 21-year-old Jordan Deaderick. His accomplice, 19-year-old Michael Thompson was arrested a short time later while walking on Tusculum Road.
Both men have since admitted their involvement in the crime and are charged with aggravated burglary.
Thompson, who was convicted of two burglaries in February, was also charged with a recent home break-in that occurred on Woburn Way.
He is being held in lieu of $60,000 bond.
Deaderick, who has a previous marijuana possession conviction, is being held in lieu of a $5,000 bond
