I haven’t had time to read anything yet, but I wanted to check in on the tail end of a long and serious illness.
In March and April I was at the gates of Valhalla, but it seems my work here isn’t finished yet, so you’re stuck with me for a bit longer.
I was nearly blind.
I was gasping for breath because my lungs were full of glue.
I couldn’t eat.
I lost 35 to 40 pounds in weight.
I couldn’t sleep (at all), and would probably have drowned if I had.
I had no strength or stamina. I couldn’t even walk across the room.
I couldn’t manage simple things like washing my face without help.
I was just about helpless, though I was spared the indignity of needing help with “bathroom functions”.
It wasn’t much fun!
The final diagnosis was “Left Ventricular Heart Failure” (whatever that is when it’s at home).
I’ve been poked, prodded, punctured and scanned, plus had buckets of blood taken for seemingly endless “tests” that aren’t over yet.
I’m still weak, and I’ve got a few more medical appointments to come, but I’m well on the way to making a good recovery at last.
Much as I like to criticise the medical mafia, especially after they nearly killed me a few years ago, I couldn’t have had better treatment this time.
It will be a while before I can start commenting regularly, but at least now you know why.
