    VANDALIA, Ohio – Donald Trump returned to the campaign trail Saturday with a flourish, rolling up to a hangar in his personal Boeing 757 as the score from the movie Air Force One played through oversize speakers at ground-shaking volume.

    He was interrupted by protesters several times and, at one point, flinched and was surrounded by Secret Service Agents as a man apparently tried to jump a barricade behind Trump on the tarmac. Local authorities said the man was taken into custody.

    “I was ready for him,” Trump said, “but it’s much easier if the cops do it. Don’t we agree?”

    Still, there was no outbreak of violence like that which caused Trump to cancel a Chicago rally Friday afternoon as backers and protesters clashed in the streets inside and outside the arena where he had been scheduled to appear.

    Trump said he was the victim of a “planned attack,” and that his backers had been taunted and baited by provocateurs.

    “We cannot let our first amendment rights be takien away from us,” Trump told several thousand fans packed inside the Wright Brothers Aero hangar at Dayton International Airport.

    “We want to get along with everybody, but when they have professionally organized wise guys, we’ve got to fight that,” Trump said. He said the protestors were not spontaenous but intent on shutting down the event.

    Trump’s rivals criticized him Saturday, saying his incendiary rhetoric encourages violence. Before Friday’s struggle, there were a series of incidents in which protestors were roughed up at Trump events.

    “We are being ripped apart at the seams now, and it’s disturbing,” Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said while campaigning in his home state. “I am sad for this country. This country is supposed to be an example to the world.”

    Ohio Gov. John Kasich, speaking to reporters in Cincinnati, said that Trump has created a “toxic environment” in the Republican campaign for president.

    As the inevitable protesters popped up during the event Saturday, Trump reacted with his usual theatrical bravado.

    “What a whack job!” the mogul said, shaking his head after police led away a man who had held up a “Trump Loves Hate” sign.
