For decades, Israel has largely been responsible for the rise in petroleum prices. Writing for The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs in 2003, Dr. Thomas R. Stauffer concluded that conflicts in the Middle East have cost the American taxpayer approximately $3 trillion.
